Employment Law

Legislation governing virtually every aspect of the employment relationship between the Employer and the Employee has grown (and continues to grow) rapidly. This increase in the range and importance of employees’ rights, coupled with greater awareness and willingness amongst employees to enforce those rights, has resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of claims dealt with by both courts and employment tribunals. Given that the levels of compensation awarded by tribunals have also increased dramatically, employers ignore this burgeoning field of law at their peril.

How we can help

Our team of specialist employment lawyers have very extensive experience of advising and representing both employers and employees on a wide range of issues. On the premise that prevention is better than cure we also adopt a proactive approach with a view to minimising or avoiding problems by regularly updating clients whether at seminars or by means of our monthly enewsletters on changes which may affect their business.

  • Drafting contracts of employment, staff handbooks and other policies and procedures for employers, e.g. computer/email ,equal opportunities, health and safety, harassment, sickness, disciplinary, grievance, maternity and family friendly procedures.
  • Drafting consultancy agreements, agency agreements and management services agreements.
  • Advising in relation to all issues relating to TUPE and change of ownership
  • Management of redundancy programmes.
  • Dealing with a wide range of tribunal and court hearings including unfair dismissal, sex, race, age, religious and disability discrimination, equal pay and enforcement of restrictive covenants.
  • Negotiating terms of severance and drafting or advising on compromise agreements.
  • Providing immediate on the spot advice to clients, dealing with employment issues as and when they arise.

When to contact us

In employment law, the old adage “prevention is better than cure” is often especially true. Many disputes that end up in employment tribunals could have been avoided by having clear and comprehensive contracts and policies agreed with employees. The optimum time to take advice is therefore when you are considering increasing your workforce, or on reviewing your existing terms in response to a change in the law or other circumstances.

We welcome the opportunity to meet with potential clients on a ‘no obligation’ basis so as to discuss their requirements and explain ways in which we might assist.

For further information contact Mel McCrum or Simona Hamblet (both members of the Employment Lawyers Association) for further information, or to arrange a meeting.

In all cases we will give you an indication of the level of costs likely to be involved and details of relevant charging rates.

Whilst individual solicitors tend to be based at one particular office we have dedicated meeting rooms available at each office to enable us to meet with you at whichever office is most convenient for you.

Testimonial

Over the past 15 years my company has grown considerably and with more staff, employment was becoming a big issue, after being taken to employment tribunal I decided that we really needed professional intervention.
Wheelers were instrumental in giving professional and speedy advice with regards to employment law.
Simona Hamblet has a wealth of knowledge in this field and has produced an employment contact for all our staff and a set of company guidelines as well, since employing Wheelers I have on a regular basis contacted Simona with regard to particular issues and these have been dealt with efficiently and to the highest standard.
I can now deal with the important task of creating work rather than worrying about staffing issues.
